The process to establish a Constitution for Europe is proceeding with the aim to implement the next treaty before the European elections in June 2009. We believe this process cannot go further without the direct participation and approbation of the peoples of Europe. The next EU treaty cannot be established without asking the people! For all these reasons, the EUD support the X09.eu initiative.
X09.eu is a development of the Open Letter to Prime Ministers following the Berlin Summit of March 2007, signed by 10 members of the European Parliament from seven political groups:
- Anna Zaborska, Slovakia (EPP)
- Panayiotis Demetriou, Cyprus (EPP)
- Max van den Berg, Netherlands (PES)
- John Attard-Montalto, Malta (PES)
- Diana Wallis, UK (ALDE)
- Silvana Koch-Mehrin, Germany (ALDE)
- Ryszard Czarnecki, Poland (UEN)
- Grard Onesta, France (GREENS/EFA)
- Tobias Pflueger, Germany (GUE)
- Jens-Peter Bonde, Denmark (IND/DEM)
Ask for a referendum on the next treaty - Sign the petition!
