ROGER HELMER MEP
Elected in 1999 and re-elected in 2004 as the local MEP for Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire & Rutland, Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire, Roger represents the interests of 4.1 million British citizens and works for an EU of Nations as opposed to the federal model pursued by New Labour in the UK.
He sits on the Unemployment, Petitions, Constitutional Affairs, the Parliament's Temporary Committee on Climate Change and is also a memberof the Korea delegation.
During the course of his long business career before 1999, he spent a total of twelve years running businesses in East and South East Asia, so he brings a wealth of detailed knowledge of the region to his work.
Roger has earned a reputation - and even the grudging respect of political opponents - for his clear, consistent and forthright approach to the question of Britain's relationship with the EU.
Proof of that are his books on European issues, "Straight Talking on Europe", published in 2000, followed by "A Declaration of Independence",published in 2002.
He currently chairs of The Freedom Association.
