EU Constitution - Two sides of the coin
We are currently developing a strategy to organise a two-pronged campaign covering both sides of the coin: Stopping the EU Constitution and, at the same time, developing new ways of cooperation.
1.) We have to stop the EU Constitution for good!
We have to ensure that the proposed EU constitution, in full or in part, will not be revived or introduced by the back door. The verdict of the French and Dutch electorates must be accepted. In many other countries polls have indicated a majority against the EU constitution. The EU constitution would cement a ‘Europe of the Eurocrats’. We need genuine reform to make it a ‘Europe of the citizens’.
2.) We need new ways to make things going better
Defeating the EU constitution is not enough. We do not want to return to the Europe of the 1970s; we want progress, not retrogression. We must develop an up-to-date citizens' vision of a Europe they want to live in. We need to examine and curtail existing regulation, and introduce simple but effective rules for genuine subsidiarity. We need an honest debate about the future of Europe, conducted by the citizens.
