EUD Campaign: The Citizen's agenda

The Citizen's agenda exhibition in Berlin

The Berlin Conference organised by the EUD on March 23-25 2007 was the perfect occasion to present the first results of the Citizen's agenda campaign to the public. Although these results were only temporary, the main purpose of the exhibition was to sense the reaction of the public and learn from the critics. In fact, the critics were very few and numerous were the compliments!

The message we wanted to pass was double. Firslty, we wanted to underline the diversity of opinions of the various people interviewed. Secondly, we wanted to insist on the fact that the people do think about the EU and do have an opinion about its development. They just need the opportunity to express their thoughts:

The media used the opportunity to realise their interviews in front of the exhibition

By expressly choosing very contradictory quotes among the interviewed persons, our aim was to provoke the visitor and underline one of Europe's greatest wealth, namely its diversity! Federalism, reformism, skepticism were thus some of the tendencies featured on the posters.

This exhibition was featured for two days during the EUD Berlin Conference: "Europe - Not without the people"

When it comes to the future of Europe, we should definitely use the opinion of the EU citizens as a resource to find a common vision instead of leaving it to the European leaders who for a long time have been out of touch with the EU citizens. It is only by bringing the citizens into the debate that a constructive and comprehensive solution can be found to the so called "crisis" the EU is going through.

In the end we want to prove to the EU leaders the weaknesses of the one-size-fits-all model and the necessity to find a softer stance on the future of the EU. Alternatives to endless harmonization do exist!
